Where is the Love?

Where is the Love?
by Jennifer Hoffman
==================

Although we begin our life journey with full knowledge and understanding of unconditional love, the twists and turns of our path remind us that earth can be a very 'unloving' place. The love we give is often not returned to us and when we have experience enough 'loveless' situations and relationships, we being to wonder what happened to the love that everyone is supposed to have. Do they keep it for themselves or is there some secret we don't know to receive love? We willingly give love to others but where is the love in the world if it is not being shared with us?

How many times do we give love to others only to have them reject us and our love? How many times do we approach a situation with acceptance and healing and the response is denial of our gift of love? If we are willing to give love, then where is the love that should be our reward? We can believe that it is our mission to teach the world to love and we will find love someday. But while we are challenged to give love to everyone without expectation of receiving anything in return, there is a way to ensure that we receive all of the love we give and more.

We can take two paths for love, each of them reflects our intention for the love we give. One path is to give love conditionally, with the expectation of receiving. Then we find the person who is least likely to return our love and challenge ourselves to somehow get them to love us. Despite our expectations and no matter how much love we give, they will give us what they can, which is often little or none at all. This is the karmic path, because we connect to those we have loved, wronged or been wronged by in the past and our gift of love is an attempt to heal that wound. But our love is conditional, we want something in return, either to be validated, vindicated, appreciated or forgiven and this is manipulation, not unconditional love.

The other path is to love ourselves unconditionally, to be the love we wish to have and we will connect to people and situations that mirror our self love. There is love in the world, each of us has a core of divine love that we can express, or not, according to our soul's path and willingness to embody our divinity in our humanity. No matter how much we look for love, unless we have it within us, we will be unfulfilled and dissatisfied with our results because the love we find is always a mirror of the love we are willing to acknowledge within. No matter how 'unloving' the world may appear, there is always love present and we can experience that love in wonderful, fulfilling ways when we remember to look for it within. When we expect love, unconditionally and without judgment, it will be there for us and the love we give will be returned to us.
