Did I Really Do That?

Did I Really Do That?
by Jennifer Hoffman
===================

While our focus is on our current lifetime, our spiritual journey encompasses many lifetimes and a range of life experiences. We have been kings, queens, peasants, priests and priestesses, mothers and fathers, bakers, gardeners and horse trainers. We have been honest, powerful and compassionate, as well as dishonest, powerless and manipulative. In the full spectrum of our lifetimes we have done many things, some we would be proud of today and some less so. It is always a surprise in a karmic reading for someone to hear that they misused power, were manipulative, and may have been cruel and unkind. It is hard for them to acknowledge that they could have been so non-spiritual in other lifetimes. But before we judge our behavior we must remember that there is learning in each lifetime and in the give and take of karmic cycles, we are both victim and tormenter, abuser and abused, until we learn all aspects of an experience and are willing to heal the energy, which is what we are now here to transform.

For every lifetime in which we have abused our power, we have an opportunity to experience the abuse that we were responsible for, atone for it and heal and transform that energy. When we have not used our power wisely or out of fear, we are given another lifetime in which many opportunities to step into our power are provided to us. The fact that we can assess our life experiences in this way and feel pain, sorrow and compassion for the ways in which we may have once tormented others is a testament to our spiritual growth. If we were not at this level, we could not be concerned about whether or not we were living the 'right' or the spiritual way. We have come a long way and are nearing the end of a spiritual cycle for humanity.

Without understanding, growth and healing, we are in an endless cycle of seeking retribution from those once caused us pain, as they are from us. Our past behavior cannot be judged as good or bad, it was part of our soul journey. The world is a new place and we have proof of this all around us, as we collectively protest against cruelty and injustice, we seek balance between the light and dark and work hard to honor our spiritual path. But while we are doing that, we are also atoning for those lifetimes where we were learning about the darker side of our energy. Each time the karma wheel turns in our direction we can make the choice of compassion, forgiveness and Light or more lessons in darkness, powerlessness and fear.

It is the ups and downs of our spiritual journey that bring us to the point in our evolution where we are aware of the need to use our power in a different way. Our many different experiences have led us to this point in our collective journey, where we have the power to change the nature of the earth's energy. And it is cause for celebration, not being hard on ourselves for lessons we have already learned. We have done many things, learned much and are now on the threshold of a new way of being. It has taken much suffering and many lifetimes to get to this point, but we are here. Forgiving ourselves and others is the new paradigm for humanity, so that we can create heaven on earth and peace and joy for everyone.
